About

Leigh Hopkins
is a writer, speaker, and educator. In 2010, she left a career in social policy and education reform to move to Brazil, where she launched a retreat center and founded Viva Institute by rigging a satellite dish to a boulder in a banana field.

Leigh was the Vice President for Education of a leading social policy think tank, where she provided programmatic and fiscal support to 500 literacy programs in historically underserved communities throughout the U.S. She specialized in “midcourse corrections,” one of which resulted in the successful turnaround of a foundation’s $25 million investment in a five-city education initiative.

After accepting the invitation to be a monthly columnist at bestselling author Lidia Yuknavitch’s writing workshop, Corporeal Writing, Leigh was invited to curate the column. She has been a guest writing instructor at Corporeal Writing, and her essays have been published in Elephant Journal, ENTROPY Magazine, The Manifest-Station, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Viva Institute, and at LeighHereNow. A native of New York, she holds a Bachelors in Elementary Education and Music, and a Masters in Education.

Whenever Leigh publishes a new blog post, newsletter subscribers receive it first; subscribe.
